meet shawn and carolyn cox

Boardwalk Entertainment was built by husband-and-wife team Shawn and Carolyn Cox. Since 2010, they've helped couples, families, businesses, and organizations celebrate life's biggest moments with professional DJ services, award-winning photo booths, and event lighting throughout Virginia and eastern North Carolina.

Their story began in 2008 while working together at the Chrysler Museum of Art. What started as a shared appreciation for weddings, special events, and creating memorable guest experiences led to the launch of Boardwalk Entertainment the following year. A few years later, it also led to a wedding of their own.

​

Today, Shawn and Carolyn continue building Boardwalk Entertainment together, each bringing their own strengths to every celebration. Whether it's Shawn behind the DJ booth, Carolyn coordinating a wedding through Carolyn Celeste Weddings, or the two of them welcoming guests at one of Boardwalk's award-winning photo booths, everything they do is guided by the same commitment to personal service, thoughtful planning, and attention to detail.

Shawn has been entertaining audiences throughout Hampton Roads since 1989, when he got his start in local radio at just 15 years old. While building a career behind the microphone at Z104 and 2WD, he was also performing at weddings, school dances, corporate events, and private celebrations.

​

Those two careers complemented one another. Radio sharpened his ability to connect with an audience, while thousands of live events taught him how to read a room, keep a dance floor moving, and adapt to every kind of crowd.

 

Today, he's recognized as one of Coastal Virginia's most trusted wedding DJs and emcees.

When he's not behind the DJ booth, Shawn is involved in nearly every part of the Boardwalk experience. From answering inquiries and preparing proposals to designing custom photo booth graphics and hosting many of Boardwalk's photo booth events, Shawn works closely with clients from their first inquiry through the final song or last photo strip.​​

Carolyn is the owner of Carolyn Celeste Weddings, where she has earned a reputation as one of Hampton Roads' most respected wedding coordinators. A preferred coordinator at venues including the Chrysler Museum of Art and Virginia MOCA, she's known for her calm demeanor, thoughtful planning, and exceptional attention to detail.

That same experience has helped shape Boardwalk Entertainment from the very beginning. Carolyn's eye for design, organization, and the guest experience influences everything from event preparation and timelines to the presentation of Boardwalk's photo booths.

​

Whether she's coordinating a wedding, hosting one of Boardwalk's photo booths, or helping behind the scenes, Carolyn approaches every celebration with the same organization, professionalism, and attention to detail that have become part of the Boardwalk Entertainment brand.
